DRI busts a wildlife trafficking syndicate involved in illicit trade of ivory artefacts

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted a wildlife trafficking syndicate at Lucknow, seizing 54 ivory artefacts—including various animal and human figurines as well as household items of commercial and antique value—and arresting four individuals. The seized items and suspects were handed over to the Uttar Pradesh Forest Department. The Ministry highlights that the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 prohibits trade in elephant ivory, aligning with India's obligations under CITES. The operation follows similar recent DRI interventions in Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Karnataka.
