Government Strengthens Residential Education and Hostel Facilities for SC and Tribal Students

The Government of India is strengthening residential education and hostel facilities for Scheduled Caste (SC) and tribal students through schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Anusuchit Jaati Abhyuday Yojana (PM-AJAY), the Scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA), and Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS). Under PM-AJAY, two SC hostels with a combined capacity of 500 seats were sanctioned in Hyderabad, with ₹7.50 crore released. Additionally, SHRESHTA supports meritorious SC students via private school fee reimbursements and grants to NGOs. For tribal students, all 23 sanctioned EMRSs in Telangana are functional, benefiting 10,199 students, alongside nationwide approvals and institutional monitoring mechanisms.
