Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah is scheduled to chair the 31st meeting of the Southern Zonal Council in Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. Established under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, the Southern Zonal Council includes Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Keralam, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Lakshadweep. The councils serve as a statutory advisory forum to promote cooperative federalism and resolve inter-state and Centre-state issues through dialogue. The meeting involves discussions on national and regional issues, including Fast Track Special Courts, water sharing, the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, and welfare schemes.
