Progress of area coverage under Kharif crops as on 14.08.2026

The PIB release dated 17 August 2026 provides the latest area‑coverage figures (in lakh hectares) for Kharif crops as of 14 August 2026. Total Kharif area fell to 1,037.52 lakh ha from 1,134.27 lakh ha in 2025, a decline of 20.95 lakh ha. Rice area dropped to 379.07 lakh ha (‑14.37 lakh ha) with major reductions in Karnataka, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh, while Assam recorded a gain. Pulse area slipped to 108.14 lakh ha (‑0.35 lakh ha) with declines in Karnataka and Maharashtra but increases in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Similar trends are noted for Shree Anna & Coarse cereals, oilseeds, sugarcane, jute & mesta and cotton.
