Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh Calls for Making Diabetes Prevention a National Priority, Says Rural India No Longer Untouched by Diabetes
Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh, who also serves as a Professor of Medicine and Diabetologist, urged that diabetes prevention be made a national priority, citing the growing burden of the disease in rural India. He inaugurated the RSSDI ‘Diabetes Rural Outreach Digital Portal’ and the VISHWAS Diabetes Awareness Video Library, highlighting their role in bringing awareness, screening, treatment and follow‑up to villages. The minister emphasized that a standardised digital platform will enable systematic documentation, generate real‑world data, and support evidence‑based public‑health strategies. The outreach programme has already covered about 30 villages, with plans for further expansion, and calls for cross‑sector collaboration to sustain community‑based diabetes care.
