In his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the armed Naxalite‑Maoist groups have been defeated, but the underlying Naxal mindset persists. He urged identification and isolation of this mindset and called for engaging the youth on the mainstream development path. The Prime Minister highlighted that more than 3,500 police and security personnel have made the supreme sacrifice protecting citizens from Naxal violence. He announced the forthcoming establishment of a vibrant civil‑defence network, which will equip citizens and civil‑defence personnel with modern systems, technologies and contemporary preparedness methods.
