Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addresses the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort on the occasion of 80th Independence Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the nation on the 80th Independence Day, reaffirmed the goal of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 and highlighted a range of achievements and policy initiatives. He cited a 4‑fold rise in defence production, 5‑fold growth in Khadi, 7‑fold increase in electronics, 21‑fold rise in railway coaches and 33‑fold rise in mobile phone manufacturing. Digital milestones included a 4‑fold rise in internet users, 4‑fold increase in patents and a 100‑fold jump in digital transactions. Energy reforms featured the SHANTI Act, a target of 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047, and a surge in solar capacity from 2 GW to 160 GW. The Prime Minister announced the National Critical Minerals Mission, the launch of three operational semiconductor plants with plans for 7‑8 more, and the Samudra Manthan offshore oil‑gas initiative worth Rs 85,000 crore. He also announced the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (free solar electricity for 5 million households) and a target to train one crore youth in AI skills.
