IIT Bombay celebrates 80th Independence Day with call for responsible nation building

On August 15, 2026, IIT Bombay marked the 80th Independence Day with a ceremony at the arch near the Nandan Nilekani Main Building. The event began at 9 a.m. with Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare unfurling the national flag in the presence of Chief Guest Shri Suhas Mehta, a distinguished alumnus. Prof. Kedare urged citizens to contribute to nation‑building through everyday actions such as maintaining harmony, respecting unity in diversity, discipline, environmental protection and using Indian goods. Shri Mehta highlighted India’s need to lead in innovation, science and technology while ensuring social responsibility and environmental stewardship. The programme included cultural performances, live streaming, and concluded with staff excellence awards and recognition of long‑serving faculty and staff.
