Creating a new milestone in the policy of zero tolerance against narcotics, NCB secures the return of fugitive drug kingpin Virender Singh Basoya from the UAE

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) secured the return of wanted drug kingpin Virender Singh Basoya to India after his arrest in the United Arab Emirates in June 2026 under an INTERPOL Red Notice. He was taken into custody at IGI Airport on 14 August 2026. The case, originating from a 2024 seizure of 500 g of mephedrone in Pune, led to the recovery of about 1,837 kg of mephedrone across Pune and Delhi, and Basoya was linked to a 970 kg consignment intended for export. His apprehension forms part of NCB’s ‘Operation GLOBAL‑HUNT’, which aims to locate and repatriate major narcotics traffickers through international cooperation.
