Factual Position Regarding Media Report on Disposal of Cases by CIC

The Central Information Commission (CIC) clarified that, contrary to a media report stating only three appeals were disposed in August 2026, it had actually disposed 768 cases up to 12 August 2026. The discrepancy arose because the Second Appeals and Complaints portal, under upgradation since 2 August 2026, displayed data only up to 1 August 2026. The upgrade, announced on the website on 24 July 2026, aims to improve the digital experience for RTI applicants and will be operational from 17 August 2026, after which case data will be refreshed. The Commission affirmed that hearings continued uninterrupted during the portal upgrade and reiterated its commitment to transparency.
