ISRO seized of the issue of proliferation of large number of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite constellations or Satellite Internet constellations causing accumulation of Space debris and is taking all possible steps for its mitigation and prevention: Dr Jitendra Singh

The Ministry of Space, through Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh, affirmed that ISRO is addressing the proliferation of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations and the resulting space‑debris accumulation. ISRO’s ‘Debris Free Space Mission’ will employ Active Debris Removal (ADR) and other measures to protect space assets. India has been a member of the Inter‑Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) since 1996 and participates in UN‑COPUOS, UN‑STSC, IAA, and ISO working groups on space‑debris mitigation and Space Situational Awareness (SSA). The Indian Space Policy mandates adherence to internationally recognised end‑of‑life disposal guidelines, and IN‑SPACe’s 2024 norms urge Indian actors to adopt post‑mission disposal measures.
