LAUNCH OF NEXT GENERATION OFFSHORE PATROL VESSEL

On 11 August 2026, Yard 3037 (Shruti), a Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), was launched at GRSE, Kolkata by Mrs Manika Sadhu in the presence of Vice Admiral Sanjay Sadhu, Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition. The NGOPV programme is being executed simultaneously at GSL, Goa and GRSE, Kolkata. The indigenously designed vessels are intended for maritime surveillance, search‑and‑rescue, protection of offshore assets, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and anti‑piracy missions. The ship is named ‘Shruti’, referencing the four Vedas, and its crest features the Ursa Major constellation and a red‑white lighthouse. The launch underscores India’s push for indigenous shipbuilding aligned with the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives.
