ALLOCATION FOR FISHERIES SECTOR
The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying reports that the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) is being implemented with a total outlay of Rs 20,750 crore from FY 2020‑21 for holistic development of the fisheries and aquaculture sector. Under PMMSY and the Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund (FIDF), the government has approved infrastructure such as 184 fishing harbours and landing centres, 775 cold storages and ice plants, 1,394 live‑fish vending units, 6,018 fish kiosks, 117 retail fish markets, 24 wholesale fish markets and extensive fish‑transport facilities. Marine product exports reached 19.72 lakh MT worth Rs 73,890 crore (USD 8.46 billion) in 2025‑26, covering 128 countries, with the United States as the largest market. The department is undertaking initiatives – including trade delegations, buyer‑seller meets, and round‑table discussions with foreign missions – to diversify export markets, promote high‑value species, and enhance value addition, bio‑security, and compliance with international standards.
