PARLIAMENT QUESTION: Restoration of Degraded Forest Land

The Green India Mission (GIM), a component of the National Action Plan on Climate Change, has restored 1,84,467 hectares of degraded forest and non‑forest land across 17 states and one Union Territory since 2015‑16. State‑wise eco‑restoration figures range from 1,433 ha in Andhra Pradesh to 32,831 ha in Madhya Pradesh. For FY 2026‑27, Rs 57.08 crore has been allocated to seven states for GIM activities. The Ministry is also implementing the Nagar Van Yojana (NVY) to develop 600 Nagar Vans and 400 Nagar Vatikas (2020‑21 to 2026‑27) to boost urban green cover. Implementation involves local institutions such as Joint Forest Management Committees and community groups, while monitoring uses geo‑tagging, GIS, drone surveys and biennial Forest Survey of India assessments.
