ITI Upgradation and Industry Alignment Under PM-SETU
The Pradhan Mantri Skilling and Employability Transformation through Upgraded ITIs (PM‑SETU) scheme aims to improve the quality and relevance of vocational training in India. It targets the upgradation of 1,000 government ITIs (200 hub and 800 spoke institutes) with smart classrooms, modern labs, digital content and industry‑aligned courses, and the capacity augmentation of five National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) to set up sector‑specific Centres of Excellence. States/UTs select ITIs in consultation with industry, and approved Anchor Industry Partners submit Strategic Investment Plans, forming Special Purpose Vehicles to drive curriculum redesign and infrastructure upgrades. The Directorate General of Training has introduced 32 new‑age courses covering AI, IoT, green energy, semiconductors and other emerging sectors. The scheme is slated for implementation over five years.
