India and Bhutan Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Bilateral Power Sector Cooperation

Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal met Bhutan’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources H.E. Lyonpo Gem Tshering in New Delhi, reaffirming the special partnership between India and Bhutan in the power sector. The ministers reviewed ongoing cooperation and discussed expanding collaboration on hydropower development, cross‑border electricity trade, transmission connectivity, renewable energy, institutional cooperation and capacity building. Specific hydropower projects mentioned were Punatsangchhu‑I, Punatsangchhu‑II, Sankosh and Chukha. Both sides stressed the role of energy cooperation in sustainable development and regional energy security, and pledged continued dialogue and timely implementation of mutually beneficial initiatives.
