Initiatives for transforming NER

The Ministry of Development of North-East Region (MDoNER) highlighted several initiatives under the Act East Policy aimed at transforming the North Eastern Region (NER). Key projects include the completed waterway component of the Kaladan Multi‑Modal Transit Transport Project (inaugurated May 2023) and the two‑lane, 109 km road from Paletwa (Myanmar) to Zorinpui, Mizoram. The India‑Myanmar‑Thailand Trilateral Highway’s Tamu‑Kalewa segment was handed over to Myanmar in 2009, and the Kalewa‑Yargi section (km 112‑60) was handed over in October 2025. A High‑level Task Force (constituted 2025) presented its NEEC report in June 2026. The Rising Northeast Investors Summit (May 2025) attracted investment interests worth ₹4.48 lakh crore across sectors such as tourism, agro‑food, textiles, healthcare, IT/ITeS, and infrastructure. North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi) supports MSME growth and startups via the North East Venture Fund.
