IMPLEMENTATION OF MAHA WATER MISSION

The Ministry of Jal Shakti, in partnership with the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), launched the MAHA Water programme on 1 June 2026 to fund mission‑oriented, solution‑based research addressing water challenges. The programme targets five thematic areas – water resource assessment and sustainable management, drinking water, water quality, human and ecological health, water use efficiency & circular economy, and climate resilience & adaptation. Proposals must be submitted in consortium mode with multiple PIs and at least one start‑up/MSME/industry partner contributing 10 % of project costs. The Bharat WIN Portal facilitates start‑up participation, and the Jal Shakti Hackathon‑2025 showcased scalable water technologies. Results are shared with states, UTs, partner ministries and implementing agencies for adoption.
