Status of the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS)

The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), under the Ministry of Culture, implements the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS). The scheme, a flagship initiative, aims to foster scientific temper and awareness through Science Cities, Science Centres, Innovation Hubs and Digital Planetariums. Over the last three financial years (2023‑24 to 2025‑26) the approved allocation rose to ₹11,767.75 lakh, with fund releases of ₹11,757.75 lakh in 2025‑26. As of 31 Mar 2026, the SPoCS‑established Science Centres recorded 1,68,55,110 visitors, including students. Annexures list numerous centres and hubs inaugurated across states since 2003, reflecting the scheme’s expanding geographic reach.
