NHRC, India takes <i>suo motu</i> cognizance of the reported death of a girl due to jaundice caused by consumption of contaminated drinking water in Shahzadpur, Ambala district, Haryana

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a 12‑year‑old girl in Shahzadpur, Ambala district, Haryana died of jaundice after consuming contaminated drinking water supplied through a public tap. Several other children in the area have also been diagnosed with jaundice. The NHRC considers the alleged contamination a possible human‑rights violation and has issued a notice to the Haryana Chief Secretary, requesting a detailed report within two weeks on the health status of the affected children and the steps taken by the administration to address the issue.
