NHRC, India takes <i>suo motu</i> cognizance of the reported beating of a Class 4 student, belonging to a Dalit community, by a teacher and being subjected to casteist slurs at a Government Primary School in Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a Class 4 Dalit student was beaten and subjected to casteist slurs by a teacher at a government primary school in Ukawal village, Shivpuri district, Madhya Pradesh on 28 July 2026. The NHRC noted that, if true, the incident raises serious human‑rights concerns. Consequently, it issued notices to the Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary and the Shivpuri Superintendent of Police, seeking a detailed report within two weeks, including the status of statutory relief to the victim.
