Rehabilitation of Tribals affected by Ken-Betwa Link Project

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA) reported that the Ken‑Betwa Link Project (Phase‑I) will displace 1,913 Project‑Affected Families (PAFs) comprising 8,339 persons, of which 648 families belong to Scheduled Tribes (ST). MoTA, as a member of the project’s Steering and Monitoring committees, has cleared the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) plan for ST‑PAFs and monitors its implementation. Land acquisition and R&R activities are being carried out by the State Governments, with MoTA forwarding representations on displacement to Madhya Pradesh authorities. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has granted Stage‑II approvals subject to compliance with State R&R policies, the Forest Rights Act (2006) and related rules. MoTA emphasizes that data on disbursements is maintained by the states, not centrally.
