April–July 2026: India’s Steel Sector Exhibits Growth Trend

The Ministry of Steel’s April‑July 2026 bulletin shows a modest rise in steel output: crude steel production increased to 14.3 Mt (1.2 % YoY) and finished steel to 13.7 Mt (1.4 % YoY). Domestic consumption of finished steel grew 6.5 % YoY to 14.4 Mt. Imports rose 9.5 % YoY to 702.3 kt, while exports jumped 44.1 % YoY to 699.3 kt, leaving India a net importer of finished steel by volume. SAIL posted a 138 % YoY profit rise to ₹1,636 cr and inaugurated a 0.18 MTPA micro‑pellet plant for waste recycling. NMDC recorded its highest July output (4.06 Mt, +31 % YoY).
