Raksha Mantri chairs meeting of Parliamentary Consultative Committee for MoD on Territorial Army
On 6 August 2026, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh chaired the Parliamentary Consultative Committee meeting for the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi, focusing on the Territorial Army (TA). Senior officials briefed the committee on the TA’s mandate, achievements and composition – about 44,400 personnel across 59 units. The Minister highlighted the TA’s role as a surge capacity for the armed forces, its contributions to disaster relief during the Kerala floods, Odisha cyclone and recent Assam floods, and its environmental work, noting that its Ecological Task Forces have planted roughly 10 crore saplings with an 80‑85 % survival rate. He described the TA as a ‘Citizen‑Soldier’ linking civilian life with national security and supporting initiatives such as ‘Mission LiFE’, ‘Panchamrit’ and ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’.
