Bhartiya Beej Sahakari Samiti Limited (BBSSL), an apex body under the Ministry of Cooperation, has introduced seeds of 18 crops and 124 varieties under the ‘Bharat Beej’ brand for nationwide distribution. It channels seeds through member cooperative societies, private distributors, State Seed Federations and Seed Corporations, leveraging various government schemes. Region‑wise Zonal Managers and Coordinators oversee distribution; in Maharashtra, seeds of fodder, cotton, sorghum and groundnut are supplied under centrally‑sponsored schemes (NMEO‑OS, NFSNM, Kapas Kranti Mission), while wheat and gram are distributed privately. In Dadra and Nagar Haveli, the Department of Agriculture acts as the nodal agency.
