Key Parameters Assessed
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released results of an Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in June 2026 across multiple cities and highway routes in Jammu & Kashmir. Using SIMs from all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) on 2G‑5G networks, the test measured key Quality of Service parameters – coverage gap, call drop rate, call‑silence instances, and data download/upload throughput. For example, Airtel recorded a coverage gap of 194/40,350 samples and zero dropped calls, while VIL showed a higher coverage gap (4,500/39,609) and 3 dropped calls on the Srinagar‑Gulmarg route. Average download speeds ranged from 10.77 Mbps (BSNL, 4G) to 276.92 Mbps (RJIL, 5G), and upload speeds from 6.34 Mbps (BSNL) to 35.90 Mbps (RJIL). The findings are shared with TSPs for corrective action and are available on the TRAI website.
