OILSEED AND PALM OIL PRODUCTION

The National Mission on Edible Oils‑Oilseeds (NMEO‑OS), approved on 3 Oct 2024, aims to raise primary oilseed output from 39 Mt (2022‑23) to 69.7 Mt by 2030‑31 through a cluster‑based model involving over 600 value‑chain clusters, free high‑quality seeds, and post‑harvest infrastructure upgrades. Oilseed production rose to 43.06 Mt in 2025‑26, with 13.52 lakh ha receiving free seeds, exceeding the 10 lakh ha target. Edible oil imports in 2024‑25 were 160.72 lakh t, 46.77% of which was palm oil. The National Mission on Edible Oils‑Oil Palm (NMEO‑OP), launched in Aug 2021, has expanded oil‑palm area to 6.40 lakh ha, harvested 114.66 lakh t of FFBs and produced 20.10 lakh t of CPO, supported by Viability Gap Payments totalling ₹18.90 cr to 9,244 farmers.
