ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN UT

The Government has undertaken a series of interventions to accelerate economic development in Union Territories (UTs). Completed infrastructure projects such as the Yasho Bhoomi Convention Centre, Bharat Mandapam, Chenani‑Nashri Tunnel, and the Udhampur‑Srinagar‑Baramulla rail link have enhanced road, rail and air connectivity. Digital connectivity has been expanded through the CANI and KLI submarine optical‑fibre cable projects, raising bandwidth in Andaman & Nicobar Islands from 4.12 Gbps to 243 Gbps and in Lakshadweep from 1.7 Gbps to 200 Gbps. Renewable‑energy schemes like PM Surya Ghar, PM‑KUSUM and rooftop‑solar initiatives have increased clean‑power generation and created jobs. Legislative reforms comprising 19 regulations and bills have streamlined tax and labour rules, facilitating ease of doing business. Tourism schemes (Swadesh Darshan, PRASHAD) and homestay policies are being leveraged to boost livelihoods.
