PRADHAN MANTRI SHRAM YOGI MAANDHAN (PM-SYM)
The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan (PM‑SYM), launched in February 2019, is a voluntary, contributory pension scheme for unorganised workers aged 18‑40 whose monthly income is ≤₹15,000 and who are not covered by EPFO, ESIC, NPS or income‑tax. Beneficiaries contribute ₹55‑₹200 per month, with the Central Government matching 50 % of the contribution. Enrolment is through about 4 lakh Common Service Centres or via www.maandhan.in. As of 29 July 2026, over 54 lakh beneficiaries (women 53.1 %) have enrolled, and the government’s matching contribution totals ₹2,011.01 crore. Pension of ₹3,000 per month will commence after beneficiaries turn 60, with disbursement not before February 2039. The government has taken eight measures to improve retention and awareness, including periodic state reviews, incentives to CSCs, new digital features, extended revival periods, e‑Shram integration, SMS campaigns, outreach to chief secretaries, and a nationwide registration drive.
