Government Promotes Mumbai’s Rich Cultural Heritage through Festivals, Theatre and Support Schemes

The Ministry of Tourism is undertaking multiple initiatives to promote and preserve Mumbai’s cultural heritage, encompassing theatre, music, cinema and traditional art forms. Key actions include the establishment of the National School of Drama’s Mumbai Centre (Nov 2025) to expand theatre education, financial assistance under the Museum Grant Scheme to the Parsi Punchayet’s Framji Dadabhoy Alpaiwalla Museum (₹64.48 lakh in FY 2023‑24 and ₹100 lakh in FY 2024‑25), and the Financial Assistance for Building Grants (Studio Theatres Scheme) to organisations such as The Company Theatre (₹10 lakh + ₹14.065 lakh) and Nalanda Dance Research Centre (₹15 lakh). The South Central Zone Cultural Centre also provides grants to Mumbai artists and recommends them for Padma Awards, while the West Zone Cultural Centre collaborates on cultural programmes.
