Government Promotes Mumbai’s Rich Cultural Heritage through Festivals, Theatre and Support Schemes

The Ministry of Culture is undertaking multiple initiatives to promote Mumbai’s cultural heritage. It organises festivals such as RSM, WAVES, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Rajyabhishek Mahotsav and National Vasant Natyotsav, and showcases Mumbai theatre productions at national events. The National School of Drama set up a Mumbai Centre in November 2025 to expand theatre education and link with the city’s film industry. Under the Museum Grant Scheme, the Funds & Properties of the Parsi Punchayet Bombay’s Framji Dadabhoy Alpaiwalla Museum received ₹64.48 lakh in FY 2023‑24 and ₹100 lakh in FY 2024‑25. The Financial Assistance for Building Grants (Studio Theatres Scheme) released ₹10 lakh (first instalment) and ₹14.065 lakh (second instalment) to The Company Theatre (2024‑25, 2025‑26) and ₹15 lakh to Nalanda Dance Research Centre (2024‑25). The South Central Zone Cultural Centre provided financial assistance to Mumbai artists and recommended them for Padma Awards.
