DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF MUSEUMS AND CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS
The Ministry of Culture is advancing digital archiving of cultural assets through the JATAN software (C‑DAC, Pune) and the Museums of India portal, which now hosts digitised collections from eight national museums, two ASI site museums and the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Museum. The Gyan Bharatam Mission has made over 3.5 lakh manuscripts available online, while the National Archives uploads records on the ‘Abhilekh Patal’ portal. The National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) is integrating AR, VR, AI and sensor‑based technologies to create immersive, interactive exhibits, and has modernised six science centres under the Scheme for Promotion of Culture of Science (SPoCS). These initiatives collectively enhance public and scholarly access to India’s tangible and intangible heritage.
