Modernization of National Sample Surveys through adoption of digital platforms such as Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) integrated with e- sigma platform incorporating in-built validation checks, AI-enabled chatbot, and multilingual interfaces

The Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is modernising the National Sample Surveys by deploying Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) integrated with the e‑sigma platform, which includes in‑built validation checks, an AI‑enabled chatbot and multilingual interfaces. MoSPI has also launched short‑duration surveys for high‑frequency socio‑economic indicators and integrated administrative datasets to strengthen sampling frames. Parallel reforms cover base revisions of GDP, CPI and IIP, adoption of NMDS 2.0, the Statistical Quality Assessment Framework (SQAF), UN Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics (adopted May 2016), COICOP‑2018 in the CPI series (released 12 Feb 2026 with 2024 base), NIC 2025 aligned with ISIC Rev 5, and adherence to IMF’s SDDS. Additionally, MoSPI introduced PAIMANA and a Performance Monitoring Dashboard (launched 16 Apr 2026) for infrastructure monitoring, and developed the Sustainable Development Goals‑National Indicator Framework (SDG‑NIF) aligned with the UN Global Indicator Framework.
