Dr Jitendra Singh reviews status of Ujh Multipurpose Project in Jammu & Kashmir

The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, reviewed the phased implementation of the Ujh Multipurpose Project (MPP) in Kathua district, J&K. The project, entrusted to WAPCOS Ltd. (Ministry of Jal Shakti), will generate 186‑212 MW of power, irrigate nearly 90,000 hectares across Kathua, Samba (J&K) and Pathankot, Gurdaspur (Punjab), and supply drinking and industrial water to Kathua. Implementation will commence while remaining land acquisition proceeds. The project is presented as strategically important for border‑management, aiming to curb unregulated water flows and infiltration routes, and is part of revived long‑pending water‑resource initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
