INDIAN ARMY BIDS FAREWELL TO GENERAL VN SHARMA, FORMER CHIEF OF THE ARMY STAFF, WITH FULL MILITARY HONOURS

The Indian Army conducted a funeral with full military honours for General V.N. Sharma (Retd.), former Chief of the Army Staff, at Brar Square Crematorium, New Delhi. He died at age 97 on 31 July 2026. The ceremony was attended by the serving Chief of the Army Staff, former Chiefs of Defence Staff, Air Staff, Naval Staff, senior officers and family members. General Sharma’s career included command of armoured and mountain formations, Director General of Military Operations, and tenure as Chief of the Army Staff from 30 April 1988 to 30 June 1990. Post‑retirement, he ran a free tuberculosis clinic in Himachal Pradesh for four decades.
