Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal Chairs Parliamentary Consultative Committee Meeting on Urban Planning

Union Minister Shri Manohar Lal chaired a Parliamentary Consultative Committee meeting of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs on urban planning. The meeting, attended by the Minister of State, MPs, and senior officials, featured a presentation by Secretary Ms D. Thara on the Ministry’s initiatives. The Union Minister announced that the Ministry will now operate through two separate departments – the Department of Capital Development (DCD) and the Department of Urban Development (DUD) – to strengthen institutional capacity, improve administrative efficiency and enhance urban governance. He emphasized a holistic, citizen‑centric approach to creating liveable, resilient and sustainable cities, and invited parliamentary inputs for policy refinement.
