Update on Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan

The Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA), launched in 2016, provides free, fixed‑day (9th of every month) antenatal care (ANC) through public health facilities and encourages private specialists to volunteer. Since inception, over 7.91 crore pregnant women have received ANC and 1.24 crore high‑risk pregnancies have been identified. Maternal Mortality Ratio fell from 130 to 87 per 1 lakh live births (SRS 2014‑16 to 2022‑24). First‑trimester ANC registration rose from 58.6 % to 76.2 %, women receiving ≥4 ANC visits increased from 51.2 % to 65.2 %, and institutional deliveries grew from 78.9 % to 90.6 % (NFHS‑4 to NFHS‑6).
