APEDA Facilitates First-Ever Sea Shipment of Value-Added Flavoured Makhana from Bihar to Canada

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) flagged off the first sea shipment of 7 metric tonnes of value‑added flavoured Makhana from Darbhanga, Bihar, to Canada on 29 July 2026 via Mundra Port. The product was processed and packaged by Nutrivin Agro Private Limited meeting international quality and food‑safety standards. APEDA Chairman Shri Abhishek Dev highlighted the collaborative effort of exporters, processors, farmers and officials. The export is reported to have given Bihar’s Makhana farmers more than a 50 % increase in returns, illustrating the impact of processing, branding and export‑oriented value addition on agricultural competitiveness and farmer incomes.
