INTEGRATED FLOOD EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT IN THE GANGA BASIN

In the Ganga basin, the India Meteorological Department and Central Water Commission use AI‑ML models to forecast rainfall and floods, issuing alerts via State Emergency Operation Centres, the Sachet app, SMS‑based CAP, and Cell Broadcast. Multi‑stakeholder mock exercises are conducted by the NDRF and NDMA, and Bihar’s integrated approach combines structural measures (embankments, anti‑erosion works) with non‑structural measures (forecasting, GIS monitoring, digital reporting, and inter‑departmental coordination).
