NeGP Strengthens Last-Mile Governance through Common Service Centres and District e-Governance Societies, Delivering Transparent, Efficient and Citizen-Centric Digital Services Across the Country
The National e‑Governance Plan (NeGP), subsumed under the Digital India Programme, has expanded Common Service Centres (CSCs) from 83,950 in 2014 to 5,01,731 by May 2026, covering 2,56,743 Gram Panchayats. In FY 2025‑26, CSCs processed 4,854.03 lakh transactions (≈48 crore), delivering over 800 G2C/B2C services and supporting schemes such as Aadhaar‑linked DBT, UPI, DigiLocker, and e‑Sanjeevani. Impact assessments by CIPS, ISB and AMS report reductions in travel distance (27.25 km), time (40.43 min) and cost (₹52.12) per transaction, with 98 % beneficiary satisfaction. District e‑Governance Societies (DeGS) coordinate these services, while AI‑driven SPECTA platform monitors VLE performance. The initiative aims to strengthen last‑mile digital service delivery and promote rural entrepreneurship.
