Raksha Mantri virtually inaugurates Department of Military Medicine at Command Hospital (Central Command), Lucknow
On 29 July 2026, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh virtually inaugurated the Department of Military Medicine at Command Hospital (Central Command), Lucknow. It is the first dedicated academic and operational department for military medicine in India, established under the Directorate General of Medical Services (Army). The department will focus on areas such as military trauma, combat psychiatry, CBRNe medical response, disaster medicine and HADR, and will foster research, indigenous doctrine development and technology‑enabled battlefield medicine. It aims to strengthen combat medical readiness, preventive healthcare, and India's capability in disaster response and UN peacekeeping missions, aligning with the Raksha Strategy Vision 2026‑30.
