NHRC, India takes <i>suo motu</i> cognizance of the reported death of two persons after inhaling toxic gases inside a sewage treatment plant at a residential society in NOIDA, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that on 26 July 2026 a sanitation worker and a security guard died after inhaling toxic gases inside a sewage‑treatment plant at a residential society in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. The Commission noted that, if the report is accurate, the incident raises serious human‑rights concerns. Consequently, NHRC issued notices to the District Magistrate and the Police Commissioner of Gautam Buddh Nagar, demanding a detailed report within two weeks covering the investigation status and any compensation paid to the victims’ next‑of‑kin.
