CELL BROADCAST ALERT SYSTEM FOR DISASTER WARNINGS

The Cell Broadcast Alert System for Disaster Warnings, operated via the Integrated Alert System based on the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), is implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority. It links five warning‑generating agencies – IMD, CWC, INCOIS, DGRE and FSI – with the State Disaster Management Authorities of all states and UTs. These agencies issue geo‑targeted alerts for events such as cyclones, tsunamis, flash floods and industrial disasters, which are translated into state languages and broadcast to all mobile networks and handsets in the affected area, including remote regions. The Minister of State for Home Affairs, Shri Nityanand Rai, highlighted that timely alerts aid emergency preparedness and reduce disaster‑related casualties.
