FUNDS TO NFIES
The Government of India has approved the National Forensic Infrastructure Enhancement Scheme (NFIES) with a total outlay of ₹2,254.43 crore for FY 2024‑25 to 2028‑29. Of this, ₹1,309.13 crore is earmarked for setting up nine campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) and ₹860.3 crore for establishing seven Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSLs). Funds of ₹119.09 crore have already been released and utilized for the campuses and labs. The approved campuses are in Nagpur, Raipur, Khordha, Chengalpattu, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal; the CFSLs are in Raipur, Khordha, Chengalpattu, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, with six co‑located with NFSU campuses. Land has been allotted in five locations and the campuses are operating from transit buildings. The details were provided by MoS Home Affairs Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar in a Lok Sabha reply.
