NATIONAL HANDLOOM DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

The National Handloom Development Programme (NHDP) provides need‑based financial support for upgraded looms, worksheds, lighting units and product/design development. Under NHDP, 237 Handloom Producer Companies were formed between 2020‑21 and 2025‑26. The Concessional Credit/Weaver MUDRA Scheme offers margin‑money assistance (20% of loan up to ₹25,000 per weaver or ₹20 lakh per organisation) and concessional interest at 6% for three years, with a credit‑guarantee fee. A centralized “Handloom Weaver Mudra Portal” enables direct transfer of margin money and interest subsidy. About 1.5 lakh weavers/entities have been onboarded on GeM, and 5,413 weavers on the India handmade e‑commerce platform (2023‑24 to 2026‑27). State‑wise data show 48,891 upgraded looms, 4,216 worksheds and 3,749 lighting units supplied in the last three years, and loans totalling ₹56.69 billion sanctioned across states up to June 2026.
