Indian Railways Approves ₹163 Crore Electric Traction Upgradation for Parbhani-Mudkhed Section in Nanded Division of South Central Railway

Indian Railways has approved a ₹163 crore project to upgrade the electric traction system on the 164 km Parbhani‑Mudkhed double‑line section in the Nanded Division of South Central Railway. The existing 1×25 kV system will be converted to a 2×25 kV system with upgraded power‑supply infrastructure, enabling higher freight volumes and the operation of Vande Bharat Express trains. The section lies on the Highly Utilised Network (HUN) Route‑9, linking Ajmer, Indore, Khandwa, Akola, Purna, Mudkhed, Secunderabad, Mahbubnagar and Dhone. The upgrade aligns with Indian Railways’ target of 3,000 million tonnes of freight loading by 2029‑30.
