Progress of area coverage under Kharif crops as on 24.07.2026

The PIB release dated 27 July 2026 presents the area coverage (in lakh hectares) for Kharif crops as on 24 July 2026. It lists normal area (2020‑21 to 2024‑25) and the final area coverage for 2025 and 2026, showing a decline in most major crops. Rice area fell from 240.62 lakh ha in 2025 to 234.43 lakh ha (‑6.19 %). Pulses, coarse cereals (including jowar, bajra, maize) and oilseeds such as groundnut and soybean also recorded decreases, while sesamum showed a modest rise (+0.62 %). The total Kharif area sown dropped from 826.19 lakh ha in 2025 to 787.37 lakh ha in 2026 (‑38.82 %).
