Manuscript Clusters and Partner Institutions under Gyan Bharatam Initiative

The Gyan Bharatam Mission (GBM) aims to create a pan‑India network of Cluster Centres (CCs) and Independent Centres (ICs) for the cataloguing, conservation, digitisation and publication of manuscripts. Selection of centres is based on criteria such as size of manuscript collections, institutional capacity, qualified manpower, infrastructure, regional representation and experience in manuscript‑related work. The National Manuscript Survey launched in March 2026 reported more than 1.19 crore manuscripts, with over 8 lakh digitised and 3.90 lakh available on the Gyan Bharatam portal. Budget allocations have risen from ₹3.50 cr (2024‑25) to ₹60.00 cr (2026‑27), with actual expenditure of ₹4.48 cr in 2026‑27. A list of 47 onboarded centres across states is annexed, reflecting the mission’s expansive reach.
