CCTV Surveillance Systems Provided at 3,215 Railway Stations and 13,409 Passenger Coaches to Strengthen Passenger Safety and Security

The Ministry of Railways reports that CCTV surveillance systems have been installed at 3,215 railway stations and 13,409 passenger coaches across India to strengthen passenger safety and security. Installation is phased, with all operational Vande Bharat and Amrit Bharat train rakes already equipped with cameras. Zone‑wise data show Northern Railway leading with 425 stations and 1,483 coaches, while Western Railway tops coach installations with 1,735 coaches. The cameras incorporate AI‑based video analytics such as intrusion, loitering and fallen‑person detection. Between 2023 and June 2026, 9,840 security‑related incidents were detected through these systems. The information was provided by Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Rajya Sabha.
