Dedicated Environment & Housekeeping Management Departments Established at Divisions, Zonal Railways and Railway Board to Monitor and Handle Waste Management Related Matters: Railway Minister

The Ministry of Railways has set up Dedicated Environment & Housekeeping Management (EnHM) departments at Divisions, Zonal Railways and the Railway Board to oversee waste‑management matters. Indian Railways has commissioned 13 biogas plants (5,095 kg/day), 171 composting plants (24,817 kg/day), 8 material‑recovery facilities (7,725 kg/day) and 858 plastic‑bottle crushing machines. An SOP on Solid Waste Management, aligned with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and Supreme Court directions, has been issued covering stations, trains, colonies and other establishments. On‑board Housekeeping Service is operational in 1,450 long‑distance train pairs, and the Clean Train Station scheme is active at 63 stations serving 2,800 trains.
